Have you seen the commercial for a popular water filter in which one man sarcastically exclaims "Does anyone want to drink lead? A fresh cup of lead!" Many of us are concerned with the lead levels in our water. But how often do we consider the other sources of dietary lead? Up until now, I haven't personally given it much thought!
Dr. Greger (an expert in research data) recently revealed the studies which show how bone broth, eggs, and certain popular supplements may contribute to lead poisoning and the subsequent host of medical problems that can result.
In his video titled How Much Lead is in Organic Chicken Soup Bone Broth, Dr. Greger explains the high levels of lead in certain supplements (beginning of video), eggs (3:14 in video) and bone broth (4:50 in video).
And is this video titled Lead Contamination in Bone Broth, he presents the data which asserts there is no such thing as a "safe level" of lead exposure; once in the body, lead builds up in the bones such that it may take 30 years to get rid of half of it. Because lead is sequestered in the bones, boiling chicken bones to produce broth (often promoted by Paleo advocates) results in a 10-fold increase in lead - even with organic, free-range chickens.
