I'm guessing we all get frustrated at one point or another. Mine seems to happen whenever I read an article or column which touts the results of the latest "study", and most times the article is reporting inaccurate, trumped-up information designed to profit someone. This type of reporting misleads and confuses people! The latest example of this is an article I read in the Joliet Herald News a few days ago, in which a doctor/columnist recommends the prescribing of statins to everyone between 45 and 70 years old, regardless of their cholesterol levels.
The study he references was not only sponsored by the drug manufacturer (BIG red flag), the results are reported in a way that makes the drug (Crestor) look like the next best thing since sliced bread.
Sometimes you reach a point where you must respond. I just sent off a Letter to the Editor, but in case it doesn't get published, I'll include it for you here. The Herald News limits their incoming letters to 300 words - which can be a good thing 🙂
Each person gets to choose which meds they'll take, but I firmly believe everyone should be given ACCURATE information before deciding. Be an informed consumer. I can help with that!
